Ferdinand Nigg (1865–1949)

Ferdinand Nigg embodies Liechtenstein's modernism at the beginning of the 20th century. Apart from his work as an artist and graphic designer, he was a respected professor at some of Germany's leading art schools (1903–1912 Magdeburg and 1912–1931 Cologne). As a member of the German "Werkbund", the Bauhaus' predecessor, Nigg was in contact with eminent artists of his time. In the art world he was known as a graphic designer, as textile designer and teacher. However, he kept his personal work out of the public eye.

Thanks to the initiative of the Ferdinand Nigg Foundation, Nigg's artwork has been receiving late recognition.
